2024 Outdoor Adventures with Another Summit

Get ready to elevate your outdoor experiences to new heights as we usher in the year 2024 with Another Summit.

Our passionate team has organized an expansive array of thrilling opportunities designed to immerse our guardians (veterans and first responders) and outdoor enthusiasts in the wonders of nature.

At Another Summit, we're a dynamic community that believes in the transformative power of nature — the value of integrating outdoor activities, experiential learning, and, of course, fun!

Our 2024 Outdoor Adventure Lineup

Regular Outings

Our core schedule revolves around 72 meticulously planned single-day outings. Each adventure is designed to offer a unique experience led by our highly skilled team, with Henri de la Vega — our Deputy Director at Another Summit and expert guide — overseeing the operations.

These short adventures are primarily accessible within a one-hour drive from our headquarters in Beacon, New York, and what’s known as “frontcountry” areas (meaning easily accessible by vehicles). If these are weekend events spanning more than one day, the camping element will be optional.

Outings span a spectrum of difficulty levels, ranging from all ages and abilities (including wheelchair-accessible nature walks) to demanding a high fitness level for strenuous adventures.

Our regular outings continue to represent the primary initiative for Another Summit, forming the heart of our program outreach.

Fieldcraft Courses

Acquire essential wilderness skills through four fieldcraft courses. These hands-on courses cover a range of survival and navigation techniques, equipping participants with valuable knowledge for outdoor adventures.

Marine Corps Veteran and Fieldcraft instructor Jon teaches us the skills using the acronym SWFFT: Shelter, Water, Fire, Food, and Tools.

Fly Fishing Outings

Cast yourself into the world of fly fishing with 12 opportunities to participate in Fly Fishing 101 and 201. These outings provide a unique chance to master the art of fly fishing in serene natural settings.

Allagash River Canoe Expedition

Embark on an epic ten-day canoe expedition along the picturesque Allagash River in Maine, immersing in the stunning natural beauty of the region. The trip is slated for July 5 - 13 so you can enjoy peak summer on the water.

Last year, we enjoyed fishing, swimming, wildlife & bird watching, cooking over an open fire, and spending quality time together around the campfire during a canoe trip in the St. Regis Canoe Area, which is part of the Adirondack Park.

Become an Outdoor Leader with Guardian Revival Training Academy

In spring 2024, the Guardian Revival Training Academy will launch Another Summit’s Introduction to Outdoor Leadership course. Designed to certify individuals as frontcountry outdoor leaders, these courses are your gateway to outdoor exploration

Frontcountry refers to the parks and public lands where you are within an hour from emergency services – a perfect starting point for outdoor adventures. In our introductory course, you’ll learn how to plan and lead outdoor activities, either with our experienced team or on your own.

Later in the year, the Advanced Outdoor Leadership course will be available. This program is your golden ticket to becoming a certified outdoor leader skilled in planning and leading backcountry trips — wild, untamed adventures deep in the heart of nature.

Guardian Revival Training Academy FTX

Our two week-long Field Training Exercises (FTX) serve as the culmination of our Introduction to Outdoor Leadership course, providing an immersive, hands-on training and practical application of outdoor leadership skills.

Outdoor Activities for Veterans & First Responders

At Another Summit, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy & healing power of nature and strive to eliminate barriers that might keep a guardian from joining us.

Another Summit is the outdoor program of Guardian Revival, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization chartered to revive and preserve the mental health and well-being of veterans and first responders — our guardians — at no cost to them.

We provide free opportunities & resources to all guardians (active & retired): Veterans, Active Military, Reserve, National Guard, Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue, EMS, Dispatchers, Corrections, and Federal Agents.

Location & Accessibility

Another Summit welcomes guardians of all ages and ability levels, including those with accessibility needs.

Our adventures are located throughout New York and the Northeast, and we organize transit-accessible adventures throughout the Hudson Valley and NYC area.

Difficulty Levels

Our adventures range from beginner to advanced difficulty levels, and our rating system considers multiple factors, including elevation, terrain, and frequency of rests:

  • 🟪 Purple (easiest) ♿

  • 🟦 Blue (easy)

  • 🟩 Green (moderate)

  • 🟨 Yellow (moderately strenuous)

  • 🟥 Red (strenuous)

  • ⬛ Black (very strenuous)

Every adventure will note the difficulty level and any other factors you need to consider for joining in the event description. And you can click on the difficulty level’s tag to see more:

A calendar event’s tags are all clickable so you can find other events with the same tag! Tag types include attendees, days, times, locations, event type, difficulty level, accessibility, and more!

Gear up for a Year of Growth, Exploration, and Thrills

As we embark on this exciting journey into 2024, Another Summit extends a special invitation to our guardians — veterans and first responders — to prepare for a year marked by personal growth, exploration, and thrilling outdoor experiences

Families and friends are more than welcome to join the journey, and for civilians eager to partake in the excitement, your participation is encouraged without hesitation. Adventure awaits, and we can't wait to share it with you!
