2024 Marine Corps Marathon Recap

The 2024 49th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) brought thousands of runners together in Arlington, VA, and Washington, D.C., to celebrate “A bond that bridges generations – women who serve our Nation and communities.”

Known as The People’s Marathon, the MCM is recognized worldwide for its organization, iconic course, and emphasis on health, goodwill, and the Marine Corps’ warrior ethos.

It remains the largest marathon in the world that does not offer prize money, making it a truly unique event for all participants.

This year, Guardian Revival was proud to have 13 incredible runners take on the course as Guardian Champions.

Guardian Revival Champions at MCM

We were honored to have 13 incredible runners participating in the MCM as Champions. Representing active-duty Marines, veterans, police officers, first responder spouses, and family members, our Champions came from across the East Coast, including NC, VA, GA, NJ, PA, MD, NY, and D.C.

Wearing their Champions shirts with pride, many received enthusiastic cheers from spectators shouting, “Go Champions!” or “Yes, you are a champion!” Here are some highlights from our team:

  • Luke Hughes: “First marathon went great! Set a family record with 3:25:28. My parents and friends met me at the finish line with my favorite bagel.”

  • Andrew Reeves: “Great weather and a great race. Crushed my previous PB by 10 minutes with a 3:37 finish this year.”

  • Christian Bohmfalk: “No PR for me, but I finished under 4 hours (3:54), which was my goal. The shirts were great, and I had 10 or 15 bystanders cheer me on as I ran by.”

  • Codi, Nik, and Zak Mullen: “Mullen crew had a great family run! Got to see friends and Marines I used to work with on the course. Congratulations, everyone!”

Several team members hit personal records, while others simply enjoyed the camaraderie and energy of the event. Two Champions even crossed paths on the course at mile 18, boosting morale for the final stretch.

The opening ceremony was full of energy, featuring Major Tuddy (mascot of the Washington Commanders) and motivational remarks from Marine Corps leaders.

Race day delivered beautiful weather, making the course through Arlington, the National Mall, and other iconic D.C. landmarks a stunning experience for the athletes.

Hosted in the nation’s capital with the start and finish in Arlington, VA, the Marine Corps Marathon offers an unparalleled journey through the most recognizable landmarks in our country.

Begin the run situated between the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery, continue through Rosslyn before journeying into the District to tour Georgetown and the National Mall on the way to ‘beating the bridge.’

Enter Arlington and pass the Pentagon, tour Crystal City and finish uphill (you read that right) at the Marine Corps War Memorial. (MCM)

Our team of 13 Champions included:

  • Three siblings running together, one currently active military, supported by their family along the route.

  • A mix of first-time marathoners and seasoned runners, with finish times ranging from 3:25 to just under 4 hours.

Fundraising for Guardians: Success

Our Guardian Champions didn’t just run; they made an impact!

Together, the team of 13 runners raised an incredible $43,000 to support Guardian Revival’s programs for military, veterans, first responders, and their families.

A special shoutout to the top Champion fundraisers:

  1. Stephen Neer $11,000

  2. Mary-Helen Lewis $8,500

  3. Christian Bohmfalk $7,900

Thank you to all our runners, supporters, and donors for making this year’s Marine Corps Marathon unforgettable. OOH-RAH!
