Philadelphia Marathon Weekend 2024 Recap

The Philadelphia Marathon 2024 weekend brought together over 17,000 runners (20 of which were Guardian Champions) to pound the pavement of one of the nation’s most beautiful and iconic marathon courses.

Known for its scenic views, historic landmarks, and electrifying energy, the Philadelphia Marathon consistently ranks among the top ten marathons in the U.S. This year’s event sold out, but Guardian Revival proudly secured charity entries for our Champions — and our team delivered an impactful performance on the course and raising funds & awareness for Guardian Revival.

Our Champions Ran Philadelphia

Across the weekend’s events, 20 Guardian Champions laced up to run for a cause close to their hearts: improving mental health for military, veterans, and first responders. These passionate runners represented nine states and included guardians, family members, and community supporters who raised nearly $35,000 for Guardian Revival’s programs.

  • 8K: 4 runners, including 3 Guardian Revival team members

  • Half Marathon: 4 runners + 7 University of Pennsylvania students fundraising as a team for Guardian Revival (3 personal records achieved!)

  • Full Marathon: 12 runners

Our Champions came from across the region and beyond, with runners hailing from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and as far as Virginia, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

“Being part of the Philadelphia Marathon weekend was more than just a race for me — it was an opportunity to bring Guardian Revival to my hometown and support a cause I truly believe in. Philadelphia’s streets, energy, and people fueled every step, and knowing I was raising money for our mission made the experience even more meaningful.”
Tina, Champions Operations Manager

For many of our Champions, this wasn’t just a race — it was a personal mission. One runner, Brian Reed, shared his reasons for running in an interview with NBC10 Philadelphia:

“I'm running to raise funds and awareness for veteran and first responder mental health. It's special because of my service, but more importantly for the people I serve with and those we’ve lost. Running for this cause is a way to give back and keep fighting for those who need it most.”
– Brian Reed

Guardian Champions Went the Distance at the Philly Marathon

Our Champions raised an impressive $34,937 to support Guardian Revival’s mission to improve the mental health & well-being of military, veterans, and first responders — our guardians — and their families, at no cost to them.

Special recognition goes to our top fundraisers:

  • Dean Dioguardi (GR Board Member): $7,616

  • Patrick Dorsey: $6,525

  • Brian Reed: $5,432

Every dollar raised supports programs that provide essential mental health resources, peer support, and wellness opportunities for military, veterans, first responders, and their families.
