American Military History Series
Please join us as we kick off our new American Military History Series with a presentation on The Life and Times of General Israel Putnam, for whom Putnam County is named, hosted by Richie Othmer.
We’re starting a new, monthly American Military History series with hosts Richie Othmer and John MacEnroe. Each month, they will cover a different topic that explores the history of service members. The Hudson Valley is rich in history, and we hope you’ll come learn more about the region & its military history.

About Your Instructor
Richie Othmer was born & raised in Putnam County NY. He spent six years serving in both the Marine Corps and United States Navy. He later joined FDNY and spent 21 years as a firefighter in the Bronx.
He hold an associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Westchester Community College and a Bachelors of Science in Western Civilization from SUNY Empire state. Richie is a registered historian with the Association of Public Historians and is the former Town of Kent Historian and President of the Kent Historical Society. He currently serves as the Town of Kent Highway Superintendent.
