Hunter Mountain Fire Tower
Join our outdoor leaders, Bill and Todd, for one of the most scenic fire towers in the Catskills! In the 6th and final installment of our Catskills Fire Tower Series, we'll be checking off the Hunter Mountain Fire Tower.
This is a 4.27 mile out-and-back up a scenic forested mountain-side with a 2,200ft ascent over 2 miles. Once at the top, you'll be greeted with an awe inspiring 360 degree view of the Catskills. One the way back down, you can stop by the Hunter Mountain Overlook, providing yet another amazing view of the area.
Initiated in 2019 and organized by the DEC, the Catskills Fire Tower Challenge rewards hikers for visiting all six of the Catskill fire towers in one calendar year. Complete the challenge with us and get the commemorative patch! Check out the challenge rules here. Missed hiking a tower with us? Worry not! There will be multiple opportunities to hike each tower in 2024.
