Upper Esopus Fire Tower

Join our outdoor leaders, Bill and Todd, in completing the Upper Esopus Fire Tower in Mount Tremper, NY.

This will be an easy 1.6-mile round trip walk on the Catskills Visitor Center loop to the Upper Esopus fire tower for an impressive 360-degree view of the surrounding area, then out to the banks of the Esopus river for a picnic lunch.

Initiated in 2019 and organized by the DEC, the Catskills Fire Tower Challenge rewards hikers for visiting all six of the Catskill fire towers in one calendar year. Complete the challenge with us and get the commemorative patch! Check out the challenge rules here. Missed hiking a tower with us? Worry not! There will be multiple opportunities to hike each tower in 2024.
