Balsam Lake Fire Tower
Join our outdoor leaders, Bill and Todd, for the third installment of our Catskills Fire Tower Series.
On this 4.2-mile out-and-back adventure we will enjoy a moderate climb past massive glacial erratics, through mixed hardwood forest up to the stand of balsam fir trees surrounding the fire tower that bears their name. From the fire tower you'll get to enjoy a 360-degree view of the Catskills.
Initiated in 2019 and organized by the DEC, the Catskills Fire Tower Challenge rewards hikers for visiting all six of the Catskill fire towers in one calendar year. Complete the challenge with us and get the commemorative patch! Check out the challenge rules here. Missed hiking a tower with us? Worry not! There will be multiple opportunities to hike each tower in 2024.
